The 9th Kidical Mass Nottingham ride took place on Sunday 1st June 2025. What a brilliant ride! A few joined us after we set off. Our first ride started off with about 35 people and the rides since saw numbers grow and grow with the last couple getting 70. This ride had a grand total of 100 riders!
The weather was on our side. I arrived in very good time to a near empty Victoria Embankment Children’s Cycle Park. A few marshals soon arrived. “Where is everyone else?”, I gulped. After a few minutes, a few families started arriving and then more and more and more gathered. Suddenly there were so many people!
I made the speech welcoming everyone to the ride, saying about the Kidical Mass movement and how more changes are needed to make cycling a normal way to get from A to B.
Without the safety of a big group, riding alone can sometimes feel so difficult as not all of the infrastructure is connected and some drivers can be incredibly hostile. One grandad said to me that riding amongst the group and seeing other children inspired his grandson to push through. He was only 4 years old and managed the entire 5.6 mile course. Wow.
It was a great atmosphere on the ride today. Thank you to everyone!
