Colonoscopy – Lynch syndrome

Last month I had a routine colonoscopy. Every two years, the NHS invite me for a screening because I have lynch syndrome. This is to check whether any polyps have developed in my bowel and if they have, remove them.

As with my usual life, I take photos and videos of everything and in this case, did the same. It’s my bowel. I thought it was so interesting!

I decided to put them in a video as I thought that it might help someone who has recently been diagnosed with Lynch syndrome and perhaps have been invited to their first colonoscopy and wondering what to expect.

I was diagnosed about 6 years ago. My Mum had cancer in 2014 and they did a biopsy. This revealed there was the genetic mutation – MSH2, known as lynch syndrome. It was strange as it did not really effect me. It was just something that I forgot about. Only every two years when I am invited to have a colonoscopy do I think about it.

This was my third colonoscopy. It was the first time they discovered two polyps. The surgeon removed these and they were sent off to the lab. About 5 days later I heard back that they were not cancerous. If I remember correctly, if these polyps are left, eventually they can become cancerous.

Thanks for reading, or watch.
