Today is the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia.
It is a day to remember those who suffered from violence and discrimination as a result of their sexual and gender identities. It also notes the progress that has been made but importantly focus on the fact there is still so much to be done in order to strive for equality.
Current circumstances dictate it is impossible to meet up to commemorate the day. Usually each year people would meet at government buildings or guildhalls to make a minute’s noise, as oppose to silence, to make it known to all that we are here. Without the meet, the day would have gone unmarked so on behalf of our union, Seb and I created the video below. It has contributions from members of the UNISON East Midlands LGBT+ network.
We hope that anyone who identifies as LGBT+ will know that there are people they can turn to for guidance or support if they should so need it especially important in these isolating Coronavirus lockdown times.
